50 shades of Autism
As you all know December started awful for us but we have panned out , eating is picking up and he seems to have developed some resilience, to the craziness of Christmas around him .
This week he has sat and watched an entire performance at school, taken part in a performance at school including wearing the costume , wore a Christmas outfit and hat today and was unphased by it , he’s really started to join in with his peers and today and enjoyed baking class and made a mince pie which in itself is everything Oscar avoids, mess, smell, texture I’m so proud of him
when I collected him he hugged another child, this is such good progress ,I’m also mindful it could be a one off week!!! and we may return to overload and head butting as a hello! next week .
Autism parenting is such a journey, no two days are the same at the moment , but with health issues still always very much on my mind , I spoke with his new consultant today as I had emailed during hell week, to seek some advice ! A week later he calls me and Oscar is now almost typecast an angel , I did explain this, but also how bad it got last week despite the medication he is on , he wants to do a brain scan trace the activity then diagnose and medicate accordingly , this all sounds positive but I did then get anxious myself, as the last attempt awake was very very upsetting they were holding him down !
So I now despite having a great week behaviour and anxiety wise, I now have the brain scan looming , which won’t be pretty I just know it won’t , the results will hopefully give the doctors the results they are looking for ,as they are right it must be about the long term planning and as Oscars diagnosed with extreme anxiety disorder, ontop of his other diagnosis , it must be planned for and managed long term as to have the level of anxiety Oscar has long term isn’t good for him or people around him, as he’s already developing some routine behaviour associated with it , stress and anxiety can induce abscences too, so we really need to stop assuming he has abscence epilepsy and find out if he does , then act accordingly , he has also been referred to a child psychologist which will be a great support to him and us .
And so we plod on ,I always find when you feel like you are getting somewhere, and things are evening out, there’s always something else that crops up , but small fires are far easier to put out compared to big ones, and if you leave things problems grow 💙
I just try and keep an open mind with Oscar and his health and positive always , I also now realise how much I took neurotypical parenting for granted before , if I knew the wildcard was on his way , I would have made myself enjoy it more💙💙💙
the good days far outweigh the bad but it’s goid to get the pros in when needed, there are no hero’s living in this house adult wise, just the kids💙
