Born Anxious is a homegrown clothing label with two objectives, to make the clothes as comfortable as possible, whilst also remaining planet friendly, and to hold important information that will aim to help not only the child, but also the caregiver as well when required. As an autism mum myself, I have thought about what could help me and other caregivers whilst trying to be as generic as possible within the designs, alongside giving those the opportunity to personalise their products as well.

You can’t pour from an empty cup

So after my little paddy on Friday in an attempt to claw back some of my identity , which I’m not sure worked😶 but it sure did feel good ! We spent the weekend as positively as we could and decided to celebrate all the small things, and attempt to introduce a little bit of change to our what can become a really mundane routine  , I’m aware that we must go at Oscars pace , but I also think if he shows any slight interest in any kind of improvement in regards to his independence skills then you have to go for it .

As a parent you have to run with it so we decided to attempt using the Tena pant liners with big boy pants during the day , he seemed to not mind there certainly less bulky that a nappy he did have a couple of leaks but that’s just trail and error , he did get sore were his legs were rubbing so I put a barrier cream on but I was really chuffed with his reaction to it ,he didn’t seem to mind and moved more freely , he’s still adverse to following any kind of Q or request to go anything regarding personal care ,so if you sign potty time or show toilet symbol he will scream shriek and throw himself into the floor and really create, in an attempt to not confuse him we started with all changed in the downstairs loo , it failed he started to attack in there , the areas too small and changing fit him is stressful as it means you get close to him which he can’t handel , and will happily take a chunk of your hair out even if your lightening speed , so for him to accept a change in this respect is literally pure gold, as it gives hope for movement slowly in this area , he didn’t like the loo so we found a potty he was willing to sit on ( I will add this was a one off to date!) he also has the same potty at school ( he won’t sit on this either) but he has shown he can sit on it and has done so there’s movement on that

As Oscars mum I just sometimes need that little change in any form ,as it symbolises hope  , it’s these changes that are so tiny but it enforces that Oscar is slightly adaptable to change and it makes me feel less empty, in many ways as being completely ridgid in all routines is so draining , and it gives me confidence to try other small tweaks and changes , I only literally need a glimmer that’s all ,then I’m not running on empty 💙💙💙
